 | here I am only eight days before giving birth to kane (dec 15). I would guess my girth at around 60" but of course I could be wrong. I was very anxious to get labor started and was trying all of the natural home methods I could think of. at my next midwife appointment on dec 21, I had my cervix checked and was found to be 3cm dilated. I knew labor would start soon. |
 | mommy, daddy and kane only an hour after birth. this is the delivery room. the tub room is attached but we did not get any photos of it. we did, however, get the entire active labor and birth on video (many thanks to our sister-in-law, cj). |
 | a very proud daddy with his son. you can almost see him planning the baseball, football and hockey games already. to announce the sex of our baby, michael put both his arms over his head like he had just scored a touchdown and yelled, in his big voice, "it's a BOY". |
 | here is baby kane all pink and healthy looking only an hour after birth. he was very alert and stayed up quietly looking around until 230am. |
 | we moved to our recovery room around 1230am. I walked myself upstairs wheeling the wheelchair instead of sitting in it. the nurses found this very amusing. at that point, it felt much better to be on my feet than sitting in a chair for a bumpy ride (those of you moms who have had babies without any painkiller will understand). |
 | we all finally got to sleep around 300am but of course kane awoke at 400am for his first feeding. after struggling for what seemed to be an hour (but more likely only 10-15 minutes), we had our first successful breast feeding. a couple of hours more sleep, and I was in the shower and kane was ready for feeding number two. |
 | 730am dec 24: mommy in a tie-dye and robe and baby in his little hat and shirt, ready for an outing to hunt down the pediatrician so that we could get the heck outta there. we finally checked out at 1030am, after waiting for everyone to get their release procedures completed (an endless parade of people wanting to poke and prod me and the baby). |
