we had plotted and planned about making the pond as large as we could for the regulations that we had to meet - distance from fence, distrance between pond and electrical outlets, etc. we think we made it as big as we possibly could per code and to keep it within the scale of the yard. |

on april 6th and 7th, we had a final (hope it's final!) snowstorm and this is what the pond looked like. laura is pretty sure that this was when michael started liking the pond ;-) (it looked so cool in the snow) |

we have been using the pond as we originally intended, as a fix for our sump problem. this white pipe will be replaced with a rocked stream when the materials arrive at the garden center. the stream will empty out directly into the bog filter, which is rocked and plumbed from below and will be loaded with plants come may 20 (date of average last frost; the bog filter was laura's design, thanks to the ponds & aquatic plants forum on gardenweb) |

it was so cool to open the gate to my fence and hear the sound of water splashing over the rocks for the very first time. and yes, it was really nice after coming home from a long day at work and knowing that someone had been here, worrying about making our pond a success :-) We highly recommend our very professional pond builder: Joe Hoffman - Euroscapes |

we decided to go with the "deluxe" version of the stream. the deluxe model includes a flagstone bridge. every time michael expresses his opinion about how something should be with the pond, it costs laura money (hehe) under the sump outlet is a standard waterfall "box". the "box" empties into the rocked stream and the water filters down into the pond. |

laura finally managed to move around all of the plants to her satisfaction, forever retiring this bed's function as an orphanage. wet loving plants in the low spots, dry/sun loving plants in the high spots. we think we've got it! |
