incriminating photo footage from
Michael Prowicz's 38th Birthday
january 17, 2003
...but first, let us introduce "the bus".
the transportation of the evening had been prearranged by laura (see invitation) for the purposes of ensuring that no one drove drunk after partying and to maximize time spent between michael and his friends.
unfortunately the evening took off very quickly, so quickly in fact that no one got a photograph of the actual vehicle during the entire evening (unless you count this picture). so laura has thoughtfully stolen a photo of a very similar "party bus", as they call it, from the web site of an unsuspecting limo company.
intially laura wanted to hire a stretch limo to drive everyone to the party, and when she called the limo company to make a reservation she had 10 people confirmed so yes the stretch would work just fine. then the wednesday before the party, laura called to confirm with the RSVP number and was informed that with 12 or more people, we would be relegated to "the party bus". instantly pictures in her mind went from the little short school bus to the shuttle vans for hotels. but! no mind, the plans were already laid and everyone would be at the blue line el on friday night, so send it, whatever the hell it was.
it wasn't that night three days before the party that laura thought to give this information to michael. no. she had to wait until they were in the car, with all of the beer and tequila packed into the hatch on their way to meet the partygoers and then...
she just kind of says "I have no idea what kind of car they're sending".
michael put on the brakes (right in the middle of traffic on river road) and looked at her, "what do you mean you don't know what they're sending??? I thought you ordered a stretch limo!!!".
laura said "well you know when I called the other day to confirm they said that since we have over ten people, we have to get some other kind of vehicle. a party bus or something. I don't know. "
"well", michael said, "this is a great time to tell me. there's nothing we can do about it now. I thought I was nervous about the party and whether anyone is going to show up to meet for a party at the rosemont el stop...now...well I just don't know how this is going to go."
we pulled into the rosemont el stop on river road just south of touhy avenue, parked in slot #182 and looked around. there wasn't anything that looked like a party bus anywhere in the lot. just buses, a too-well lit pull-in and kiss-n-ride area and a lot of really cold people standing around. the party bus was definitely not here yet. neither were any party-goers.
laura got out of the truck and told michael she would go and start looking for folks coming to the party. maybe if she stood out in the middle of the well-lit area, people would know where to go. she was really starting to doubt the whole plan at this point.
then, from out of nowhere, there was michael's good friend, roz. instantly laura felt better. she looked ready to have fun and already had the right attitude on. then another of michael's friends, mark, came walking over. together the three of them started talking about the dreaded "party bus".
suddenly a very large, lumbering, dark and horrible-looking hotel shuttle bus pulled into the lot. laura said "please...don't tell me...that's our bus. that had better not be our bus! look at that horrible looking shuttle....uuuugggghhhhh..."
mark and roz both looked at laura. "don't be so fast to judge. you have no idea what it's like inside. let's go check it out.
we walked over to the bus. as we crossed the expanse of asphalt parking lot, laura's feet felt heavy. nervously the three of them stood in front of the bus door. slowly but surely, the door opened. and there it was. the party bus. the party. the bus. IT WAS COOL. so cool, we all let out a shout and laura started running to get michael.
"come on come on. you have to check this out. it's so cool!! you're going to love it!" she said.
michael grabbed the liquor from his jeep. there was a 12-pack of heineken, a 12-pack of corona, a bottle of wine, a bottle-opener and a bottle of anejo tequila (and limes, of course). as michael said, he's no amateur about partying with this crowd. :-)
we loaded it all into the party bus. the crowd, pretty much all of them, arrived. and off we went.
without further ado, the incriminating photos
