After a year of looking at the ugly hole in the yard in 2002, by february 2003 laura had the bright idea to call a pond professional to see if she could get a bargain as an "early bird" customer. Laura figured "gee what are pond builders doing in march? hanging around the house? bet they'd rather have a job to work on." And she was right.

She found a great company nearby willing to talk best price on the basis of getting the build completed in early spring. Since most of the digging had been done the previous year (such as it was) and 85% of the materials purchased, a bargain was reached and the building began in earnest!

The indentation area closest to the camera is the bio-filter area, which will be responsible for keeping the pond clean (read about it in our pond design list.) This also happened to be the location of the run-off area, which we designated as a "bog garden" and planted appropriately.

Yes that was before all of the hysteria about these very nice dogs. Yes if you write me and tell me that pit bulls are evil I will wish the fleas of 1,000 camels to invade your armpits. I loved that dog. Good boy, Ares.
